Ideal for a week or weekend of outdoor adventure, fresh air or a creative retreat, The Garden Flat is the most conveniently situated, accessible and affordable Aviemore apartment. This lovely flat will meet all your needs. For those who want to be right in the heart of beautiful Rothiemurchus but not too secluded, it strikes the perfect balance. The location is ideal for a car-free holiday: bikes can be hired from In Your Element a few minutes walk away, and in winter you are a short walk from the main bus route up to the ski area at Cairngorm Mountain.

Compact but stylish and recently brought right up to date, the self catering apartment has been designed to bring the garden indoors, with a colourful botanical theme throughout. It retains some unique original features, such as the copper fire and chimney in the decorative tiled fireplace.

An open plan living area and kitchen await your arrival. It features a wide window seat from where you can look out to the grand old walled garden. In the kitchen you’ll find all the conveniences you need, an oven, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher, as well as a Lavazza coffee machine for those who can’t start the day without a perfectly brewed espresso or latte!

For additional flexibility and space, the apartment offers a delightful twin room, perfect for friends or family members. The twin beds are designed to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep for each guest.

Furthermore, as our guest, you’ll have access to the shared walled garden at the back of the apartment. This beautifully maintained garden provides a peaceful oasis where you can unwind, read a book, or simply enjoy the serene surroundings. Feel free to explore and make the most of this communal space during your stay.

HISTORY

The Hidden History of the Garden Flat and Inverdruie House

On returning from World War II, Lt. Colonel J P Grant the younger of Rothiemurchus and his wife Lady Katherine Grant moved to Inverdruie House from The Boat House. Johnnie Grant of Rothiemurchus would be born at the house in 1946, and there the family lived until 1960 when they moved to Drumintoul Lodge. Johnnie remembers:

“The living room and kitchen of The Garden Flat was our kitchen and the room next to it was the larder. Milk from our 7 Ayrshire dairy cows at The Doune farm was collected daily – my mother skimmed the cream and made butter at least twice a week in the kitchen. My father’s office was inside the front door [of Inverdruie House] on the right; the dining room on the left.

There was background heating to keep off the frost provided by a ‘central heating’ boiler, fuelled by coal shovelled in by hand; it was still very cold. We were kept warm by layers of hand knitted wool jerseys and stockings, sawing logs, carting them in, big fires and lots of shivering.”

If you would like to book any of these wonderful extras for your stay, please let us know and we’ll have it all arranged for you.
