Weaver Green: beautiful, practical, ethical
The Devon-based company behind some of the gorgeous textiles in Achnahatnich House...
When furnishing each new property, we like to use products that are practical and hard-wearing as well as simply beautiful. But it's also vitally important to us that we source as many products as we can from companies that are environmentally sound and use ethical production methods.
Weaver Green, whose rugs and blankets appear throughout Achnahatnich House, are a small company based in Devon who have come up with an innovative material for their textiles. Incredibly, these wonderfully soft pieces, which have the same soft feel as wool or jute, are in fact made from recycled plastic bottles. Each rug contains up to 3000 salvaged plastic bottles, which means that is 3000 bottles that won't end up in landfill or in our oceans.
Weaver Green use ethical production methods too, only useing weaving houses that employ skilled adults, who are paid fairly under comfortable and fair working conditions.
But these are textiles that are beautiful and tactile in their own right - you would never guess that these gorgeous rugs and throws came from such humble beginnings! Patterns and colours are Scandinavian, African and Eastern in inspiration and design and would look fabulous in any contemporary or classic interior. (And naturally we love the fact that they are machine washable, moth proof and easy to clean.)
The final piece of good news is if you too fall in love with these gorgeous rugs, you won't need to look far to pick up your own version. Weaver Green rugs, cushions, bags and more are stocked in the Rothiemurchus Farm Shop.
