Cairngorm Mountain is only a 15-minute drive from Rothiemurchus, and in season offers a range of pistes to suit all abilities of skiers and snowboarders, as well as access to exceptional backcountry routes. The ski season in the Cairngorms typically runs from Christmas to April but the climate is not such that snow can be guaranteed. If you prefer your skiing at a lower altitude, why not try cross country skiing during the winter? A firm favourite of many locals, cross country or Nordic skiing is fantastic exercise and there are many specially-cut trails around or close to Rothiemurchus. You can hire equipment from Ellis Brigham in Aviemore or from The Pine Marten at Glenmore.
