Always dramatic and spectacular, the Highlands have been pivotal to much of Scotland's history - from Royal feuds and bloody battles to industrial revolution. For a fascinating insight into Highland life in Jacobite times, visit the 1700s township at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore - so authentic that it was used to film scenes in the first series of Outlander. This fascinating visitor attraction (Britain’s first ever open air museum) gives you a flavour of how Highland people lived and worked from the 18th century up until the 1960s.
