Castles and Historic Sites

Always dramatic and spectacular, the Highlands have been pivotal to much of Scotland's history - from Royal feuds and bloody battles to industrial revolution. There are sites which tell these stories to be discovered all over the Cairngorms National Park and within an easy day’s drive of the properties.

Nearby castles and historic sites to discover include Ruthven Barracks, Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, Ballindalloch Castle, Brodie Castle. Slightly further afield are Braemar Castle, Urquhart Castle, Balmoral Castle and many more.

For a fascinating insight into Highland life in Jacobite times, visit the 1700s township at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore - so authentic that it was used to film scenes in the first series of Outlander. This fascinating visitor attraction (Britain’s first ever open air museum) gives you a flavour of how Highland people lived and worked from the 18th century up until the 1960s.
